The first rank or 종1품 is the crown princess- wangsejabin 왕세자빈(王世子嬪) or simply sejabin 세자빈(世子嬪)

Court Lady Ranks 내명부 궁관

For each rank there are two (for rank 5 and 6), three (for rank 7 and 8) and four (for rank 9) titles.  Jeong 정 (正) is the higher level for each rank and Jong 종 (從) is the lower level.


The rank Sang-gung 상궁 (尙宮) is a rank for a court lady that is already intimate with the king or the head of a department (e.g Highest Kitchen Lady, Chief Lady Inspector). 
The court ady that is intimate with the king is not a royal consort yet until she is promoted or until she gives birth to a prince or a princess. Ranks of royal consorts can be found here.

Consort Ranks (후궁들의 품계)

There are 8 levels for the concubines and special court ladies. The top 4 ranks were for the consorts and each rank has two levels so really, there are 8 levels altogether. Jeong 정 (正) is the higher level for each rank and Jong 종 (從) is the lower level.


The highest title for a consort is Bin 빈 (嬪) and the second highest is Gui-in 귀인 (貴人). These ranks are basically just below the Queen. Each of the consort's regnal name/reign name (the name before the rank title e.g Seong-bin 성빈, Seong (성) is the regnal name) was chosen for her depending on her personality.
